Feedback & Constructive Criticism

Last year we were required to provide case feedback to the case leader. We completed this as a group, however we all came together as a group and added comments and suggestions.

After completing one of our exams, Ms. Blackinton (as the course leader) asked for feedback on the exams. I may have not done as well as I would have liked on the exam, but my feedback to her was honest: it was a very fair test.

Ms. Blackinton facilitated our 3rd case. (Unfortunately, only the 3rd case.) At the completion of the case, I gave her feedback on her facilitation skills and asked her to give me feedback on my documentation skills. (Her feedback skills far surpassed my documentation skills.)

I sent Ms. Hill an e-mail regarding the way that we give formal feedback regarding facilitators, mentors, etc. To sum up the e-mail, I mentioned that there may be a better way to complete these evaluations. The timing of these evaluations is always right before exams; some people may not want to give it the time that it deserves. Also, these formal evaluations don't give you the opportunity to give feedback to a faculty member that is not your mentor or that didn't facilitate your case. There are many faculty members that are still available to help you that you want to give feedback on, however there is no way to "formally" evaluate them.

At the completion of one of our cases, our facilitator asked us to give her a self-assessment. I gave Ms. BC an honest self-assessment and I welcomed her constructive feedback. The feedback that she gave me was of no surprise to me, but by hearing someone else say it, it helped me to change my ways. I tend to be one of the "quiet" ones in facilitation. However, I after hearing constructive feedback from others, I started working harder at speaking up during facilitation.
